A tasting in Lucca's Villa Bottini, hosted by the Consortium of Colline Lucchesi Wines. This was a splendid array of rich, dark wines from the 2000 vintage (opaque and purple!).
A superb opportunity to taste the best of Tuscany in the courtyard of a splendid villa south of Florence. More than eighty wineries showing some of their finest wines.
My first tasting in a while and my first since moving to Italy. I presented these wines to a lively, informed group of Swedish nurses (no, really!) who kept me on my toes with a series of questions (hence the sparse notes).
A small tasting accompanied by several dishes. The Pinot Blanc and Riesling showed far more on their own, while the Auxerois and the Gewurztraminer made the best matches with food.

This tasting was hosted by Brian Calder, the Scottish MD of Gonzalez Byass who alternated between slugs of Tio Pepe and insults as he led us through the wines. An excellent, informative tasting that was also good fun.
