Wine tasting note: 1995 Chapoutier Banyuls

1995 Chapoutier Banyuls

1st Aug 1999 GBP9 France Dessert Red

Deep bright tawny/red with some browning at rim.
Simple, closed nose with some spice.
Full bodied with flavours of spiced currants and tobacco, firm tannins, nicely judged juicy acidity and a long, spicy, slightly confected finish. Much more complex than Clos de Paulliles Ambre, but a wine to drink on its own or with a hard cheese - it doesn't hold up to chocolate.
