1998 Leonardo da Vinci Santo Ippolito Toscana IGT

Very deep ruby paling and pinking to rim. Viscous.
Slightly dumb on the nose though it did open out slightly to give stewed plums and black berries with a traces of bitter, green oak.
Medium to full-bodied with quite high acidity and stewed tomato and plum fruit. Well balanced though, with grippy tannins and a decent, sour finish of fruit, tobacco and smoky oak.
Good now, but needs food. May well develop given a couple of years.
