1998 Colle Verde Nero della Spinosa Syrah

Deep purple to ruby, bright.
Spicy oaked nose of raspberries and leather. Still a bit closed but promising…
Very dry, medium to full bodied. Still closed, with hard, hard tannins but some juicy berry fruit and lightly charred oak. Long spicy finish. Opened out over a few hours to show a savoury, rich wine with flavours of stewed tomatoes, sour plums and tobacco leaves.
Very, very good, but needs (at least) four to five years and a nice bit of beef.
