Wine tasting note: 1997 D'Arenburg Shiraz Footbolt

1997 D'Arenburg Shiraz Footbolt

5th Jun 1999 GBP7 Australia Table Red

[Tasted Blind] Ruby with some paling at rim. Upfront, simple nose of cassis with some charred oak and a touch of leaf and mint [Australian Cab Sauv?] Full bodied with a chewy texture, salty, meaty, spicy, plum/damson/mulberry fruits, firm tannins and crisp acids. Decent finish with almonds and smoked oak coming through. [Lacks a bit of balance (possibly still in shipping shock) but quite crude acidification points to Australia - Cabernet/Shiraz/Rhone mix - shouldn't be more than UKP5]
